There are several factors that may affect my performance when it comes to negotiating. The most critical one is my nerves. I of course would do everything possible to be prepared and ready to have a challenging conversation. But unfortunately, even with all of that my nerves may still get the best of me. When that happens, it can cause me to stumble over my words, easily lose my train of thought, or worst of all my mind to go blank. Another factor is if I am told there is a shortage of time for the negotiation conversation to be conducted. When feeling rushed it has the same effects on me as my nerves getting the best of me.
